Rectangular bottle front and back labelling machine

Rectangular bottles need stable side guidance, controlled wipe-down and accurate label registration so the front brand label and rear information label sit squarely on the pack.

Why rectangular bottles need controlled handling

Rectangular bottles usually provide clear label panels, but they still need accurate guidance through the application point. If the container twists, leans or varies in width, the two labels can move out of alignment from one pack to the next.

A front and back labelling machine should be checked against the full container range, including minimum and maximum sizes, cap or closure overhang, shoulder shape and any panel recesses.

  • Confirm bottle width, depth and height across the complete range.
  • Check whether the label panel is flat, recessed or slightly curved.
  • Allow for conveyor guides and top hold-down where taller packs are unstable.

Label and sensor points to confirm

Paper labels, polypropylene labels, metallic finishes and clear labels can all behave differently on flat-sided packs. The label gap, backing material and roll direction should be confirmed before equipment is shortlisted.

Clear labels may need a specific sensor setup so the label edge is detected reliably. If the label is close to the bottle edge or applied over a bevel, this should be shown in photos or drawings.

  • Send label height, width, gap and roll direction.
  • Confirm if labels are opaque, clear, film or metallic.
  • Flag barcode, batch, date or inspection requirements early.

When to choose compact or automatic

A compact twin side labeller can suit lower-volume rectangular bottle projects where operators load and monitor the machine in short production runs. An automatic twin side labeller is better for continuous inline production where the labeller must work with upstream filling and capping equipment.

The right choice depends on output, labour, space, changeovers and whether the line needs coding or inspection at the same time.

  • Use compact systems for trials, lower output and restricted floorspace.
  • Use automatic systems for higher throughput and inline production.
  • Plan changeover where multiple bottle sizes share one machine.

Information to send for a quotation

A stronger quotation starts with the pack and label details rather than only a model request. Photos, drawings and target output help Lancing UK check whether side labelling, top/bottom labelling or another format is more appropriate.

  • Container photos or technical drawings.
  • Label artwork dimensions and material.
  • Target bottles per minute or packs per hour.
  • Existing conveyor height, direction of travel and available line space.
Best next step: Best next step: send Lancing UK your container photo, label dimensions, label material and target output so the right labelling route can be checked before quote stage.

Quick answers

Common questions

Can one machine apply both labels to a rectangular bottle?

Yes. A twin side labelling machine can apply front and back labels during one pass when the bottle is controlled correctly through the label application point.

Do rectangular bottles need a top hold-down belt?

Some rectangular bottles benefit from a top hold-down belt, especially if they are tall, light or unstable at the target speed.

Can clear labels be used on rectangular bottles?

Clear labels can be used when the correct sensor and label material details are confirmed before the machine is specified.
